AirPacks are available at Bak Chiropractic!

A study by Northeastern University (June, 01) reported that the average student has a visual analog scale pain level of 4.3 with a high percent reporting pain in the range of 8-9. The students who wore an AirPacks backpack for six weeks had a Visual Analog Scale pain level of 1.8, a 50% reduction in pain.
An Auburn University study reported that heavy backpacks might be a threat to spinal development. In their survey sample, the average pack was 17% of the child's weight. 67.2% of the children studied suffered muscle soreness, 50.8% back pain, 24.5% numbness and 14.7% shoulder pain.

· Studies at Johns Hopkins Children Center showThe current student backpacks do not provide the ergonomic support necessary to prevent back injury for students carrying the average 30 lbs. of books.

· Older students (12-18 years) magnify this back injury problem by carrying their backpacks with one strap (on one shoulder) instead of two, directing the weight to one side of the body. There is evidence that this encourages scoliosis and other permanent physical problems.

Studies at Johns Hopkins Children Center show overloaded backpacks as the cause of shoulder or lower-back pain and poor posture.

Over the past four years, local television and print have extensively covered this topic. This has included coverage by the New York Times, NBC Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS Morning Show, National Public Radio, Time Magazine, Parents Magazine, Consumers Report and Good Housekeeping.

Clinically proven to reduce backpack stress.

The patented, ergonomic design combines wider shoulder straps and an inflatable lumbar cushion, which when properly positioned in the small of the back, creates a fulcrum to redistribute the weight from the shoulders to the hips, promoting a healthier upright standing posture, enhancing the body's natural ability to properly carry weight. Getting the right fit is very important to realize the AirPacks® unique ergonomic design benefit.

AirPacks, developed by orthopedic professionals are university-tested, clinically proven and are proportionally sized for students of all ages, with top and bottom adjustable shoulder straps that also automatically adjust from side-to-side to help maintain this correct ergonomic support even when using just one strap. See the AirPacks sizes and dimension below or product page description to choose which has the right proportional fit for you or the student in your life.

The condition of our feet, how we walk, and what we wear on them, can have a big impact on the rest of our bodies, structure and balance.

Kevin Langevin from Footmaxx comes to our office approximately once a month to do high tech electronic scans of patients feet analyzing gate, pressure points, arches and to give advise. This is by appointment only. He does the same analysis on professional sports teams like the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and others.

In my many years of practice this is the best orthotic product, at the best price I've ever come across. The price is usually less than $250. Hard inflexible orthotics in my experience do not work. This orthotic works with your feet, cushions the foot and arch, distributing weight across the foot properly.

I usually recommend that the doctors in the office have the opportunity to adjust and work on a patients feet first before being scanned or fitted. We feel it is best to support the new healthier foot alignment and arch rather that enforce the old position that was likely troublesome.

Call the office to schedule an appointment.
